Til Valhalla Project
As I’ve mentioned, E2 is hosting a charity Fantasy Football league where the league fees ($600) are donated to the winning team’s selected organization. E2 is matching the total to allow the winning team’s charitable organization to receive $1,200 in financial support. Each participant can pick any charitable organization in any area of life (not intended for only mental health awareness). Every week (I’m behind!) I will write an article highlighting each organization represented and give a brief overview of the services provided. My wife Samantha and I are honored to be able to have this platform to raise awareness and support for these deserving organizations and are so grateful for the participants this year who are graciously donating!
Cameron has selected Til Valhalla Project (TVP) and it’s certainly most deserving of recognition! Valhalla refers to “the hall of the fallen" in Norse mythology and the entire title represents a saying for those who serve of “Until we meet again in Valhalla.” Korey Shaffer, a USMC veteran, started this project with his wife to honor those soldiers who have fallen, regardless of their cause of death.
After returning home from Afghanistan, Korey found it difficult to adjust to civilian life, lost many of his peers to suicide, felt a lack of purpose, and struggled with his mental health and alcohol dependency. On one of his darkest nights he learned that his best friend, Cpl. Benjamin Dunston, took his life. TVP started when Korey decided to build his first plaque and the purpose was to honor the life of his best friend. He hand delivered this plaque to Cpl. Dunston’s mother who posted it on social media. It spread to the point where Korey began making these plaques and hand delivering them nearly full-time. However, he was in school and working and had to make a choice. He chose this project, to honor these brave men and women.
TVP does not accept donations, but they do sell clothing and accessories to fund the costs of making the plaques (approximately $350 each) and other supportive services. TVP has raised over $1.3 million and completed and hand delivered over 3,500 plaques! The money raised is invested into a variety of services such as supporting veterans receiving mental health care, being connected with service animals, and much more.
Cameron is a USMC veteran and chose this organization as he has lost a friend and fellow marine to suicide. He wants to recognize the excellent work of Korey and his wife and all of those who are a part of this amazing organization. Thank you Cameron for your service and bringing awareness to TVP!
