Michael is a Licensed Master Social Worker(LMSW) and earned his Master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University with an emphasis on mental health and chemical dependency services, in addition to being a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). Michael has over 20 years of experience in providing mental health and substance use treatment with diverse ethnic, economic, and developmental populations from adolescents through older adulthood.
Michael has training in a myriad of therapeutic settings including outpatient clinics, intensive outpatient (IOP) substance use treatment centers, community mental health agencies, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and dual diagnosis programs. Michael has strong skills in developing rapport to assist all clients in accomplishing their therapeutic goals. He states that his passion in this field resides in serving those who struggle with addiction/chemical dependency and finds meaning in being part of the recovery journey. Michael is skilled in treating addiction, but also the triggers and other underlying mental health co-occurring concerns such as trauma. Additionally, he is experienced with working with families and other pertinent members of the patient’s support network by setting clear expectations and goals and being consistent in his communication.
Michael provides psychotherapy to individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, co-occurring disorders, trauma (including post-traumatic stress disorder), relationship and communication issues, and individuals with substance use disorders. Michael has experience and a passion for working with the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, he is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and 12 Step Facilitation.
