Dawn Miller, LMSW
Dawn is a Licensed Master’s Social Worker who enjoys helping people find the best version of themselves through active listening, supportive counseling, and therapeutic feedback. Dawn’s goal is to offer a safe space to express and explore your feelings and equip you with the tools you need to face your challenges and succeed in the goals you have set for yourself. She will work with you on identifying your greatest challenges and your greatest strengths and find ways to navigate both to create balance and to foster feelings of contentment.
Dawn earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Calvin College and her master’s degree in social work at Wayne State University. She has worked in a variety of settings but most of her career has been spent providing crisis intervention, psychiatric evaluation and psychiatric treatment to adults and children in emergency rooms, acute care hospitals, and in psychiatric hospitals.
Dawn specializes working with children ages 8 and up, adults, and older adults. She has expertise in mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder as well as issues related to grief and loss. She also treats adjustment disorders, anxiety, chronic pain, and traumatic brain injury. Dawn has experiencing working with veterans and treating co-occurring disorders with substance abuse issues as well.
Dawn implements a person-centered approach to therapy which focuses on the client’s perspective. She seeks to create and provide a nonjudgmental, empathetic environment and assisting the client in feeling understood and accepted. She utilizes the strengths perspective, a counseling method which pays special attention to the internal strengths and resourcefulness of people, communities, and their environment. She is eager to work with you and assisting you navigate through life’s challenges with a positive mindset.
