Courtney Cohoe, LLMSW

Life is hard. Having a safe, comfortable and nonjudgemental space to talk through life’s challenges is crucial to maintaining balance and achieving happiness. Society puts so much pressure on us to live and be a certain way, including how we express our emotions. There is a lot of stigma around “negative” feelings such as sadness, anger, frustration, guilt, dread, etc. Feelings are meant to be felt but not dwelled on. It’s important to feel those emotions without allowing them to consume you. I’m here to help guide you through the healing process.

Here's my digestible yet cheesy analogy: Therapy is like bowling. The client is the ball; actively engaged in the process, much like the ball being rolled down the lane. You set the pace, make decisions, and take steps forward, occasionally veering off course. The therapist is the guardrails, providing structure, guidance, and support throughout the therapy process. I help steer you in the right direction, ensuring you don’t veer too far off course, while also creating an environment where you feel secure to explore feelings and challenges. The pins are the problem, challenge, or goals you are aiming to address. With my guidance, you can approach these problems, knock them down one by one and experience the satisfaction of overcoming whatever challenge you are presently faced with.

I am a Limited Licensed Social Worker (LLMSW) who earned my master’s degree from Portland State University in Oregon. I am a Marine Corps veteran who is familiar with the unique experiences that come with serving in our military including transitioning back into civilian life. I specialize in supporting all individuals with a focus on woman’s issues, veterans, anger problems and anxiety-related concerns. I am experienced in utilizing a range of evidence-based treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness techniques and Solution-Focused Therapy.

I use a person-centered approach to therapy, which aims to empower the client to have control over the therapeutic process. This process provides the client with all the tools and resources they need to rediscover themselves and reach their full potential by making positive and healthy changes in their personal lives.
